Frequently Asked Questions
How much does tutoring cost?
K–8 tutoring is $12.99/hour — one simple price with no bundles or subscriptions at launch.
How much do tutors earn?
Tutors earn $9/hour for each completed tutoring session.
How do you verify tutors?
Tutors apply with a short signup (no school ID or face photo). PeerScholars administrators review each application, and tutors accept the Code of Conduct before receiving a ✓ PeerScholars Verified Tutor badge.
Can my child choose a tutor on their own?
No. Parents review tutor profiles and approve the tutor. Younger students do not independently negotiate with tutors.
How does tutor matching work?
We match primarily by subject, grade, and availability. Shared interests are considered when possible, but there may not always be a perfect interest match — and that's okay. Parents always review and approve the tutor before sessions begin.
When does the tutor get paid?
After each session, both the parent and tutor must confirm it happened. Only then is payment recorded ($12.99 from parent, $9 to tutor). If there is a dispute, PeerScholars reviews before any payment.
How do sessions work?
All tutoring sessions are online through Google Meet. After matching and scheduling, you'll receive a link to join your session.
Does tutoring count as community service?
PeerScholars paid tutoring does not automatically qualify for school graduation or community-service requirements. Tutors build leadership, teaching, and communication skills. Some students may be able to use qualifying volunteer experiences toward school requirements depending on their school's rules — students should confirm with their school.
How is my information kept private?
We collect only what's needed for matching, scheduling, and safety. Personal details are never shown publicly to other tutors.
